It’s not just because being in control of your time is one of the reasons you became an entrepreneur. This is also because it only makes economic sense. If you are too much of an important employee, you are actually slowing the growth of your business by creating a bottleneck on the road to success.

Here is their four-step strategy for doing just that.
1. Perform a detailed time analysis
“Lots of entrepreneurs feel busy all the time – but they never seem to have time to do the deep, visionary work.” Often, this is because their attention is constantly being distracted for a number of reasons: questions from members of their team, calls from family members, social media notifications. The first step in saving time is to see where your time is actually going, ”advises Dorison.
“When you do a detailed time analysis, make a note of every time you switch tasks, every time you are interrupted, every time you have to answer a question for a member of your team. You may be shocked at how often You tune in and how little concentrated work you do – try this for a week to get a good picture of how your work days are being spent.
“When you have your detailed list of the week’s tasks, go back and ask yourself:
- Can i throw this away? Is that a task that I can get rid of altogether?
- Can i shorten this? Can I spend less time on this particular task? For example, shorten meetings.
- Can I transfer that? Is there anyone else on your team who can do this job?
What remains are the tasks that you “appreciate” and will keep on your list as CEO. This one exercise can help stressed business owners reclaim anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours a week. ”
2. Broadcast tasks using how-to videos
“One of the wastes of time that you may have discovered in your time analysis is answering questions from your team about tasks that you thought were delegated. When this happens, it means that they do not have the information they need to complete the task, that they do not have permission to make their own decisions, or that they do not have the confidence to make those decisions . “Says Dorison.
“The quickest, easiest way to delegate a task and provide the information, permissions, and confidence to do it is to create a how-to video. The advantage of videos is that you never forget a step because you are actually doing the task as you record it. Your team can see exactly how the task is being done in real time. Never again have to explain how a task is done.
“On your computer, screen recording services like Loom and Vimeo can record every step of a process for a digital task. If you want to share a real world task, just record a video on your phone. Keep these videos in folders in one place that the entire team can access. Then anyone who needs it can find and use the videos themselves. “
3. Adjust your plan seasonally
“What worked last year when your kids were in school may not work this year if they’re studying remotely, so you’ll need to adjust your plan seasonally and based on what’s going on in your life,” notes Dorison. “If you have children at home,“ stacking ”all calls in one day may no longer work for you. As a result, you may need to take one or two calls a day instead.
“You may also have to throw away, trim, or transfer more chores than you did when you had the house to yourself. If your business is having a busy season – like an accountant or a product-based company that ships lots of products over the holidays – your plan may need to change. Maybe toss your weekly hour-long team meeting in the trash and instead do 5 minute stand-up every day. You may also need to repeat the time tracking exercise in different times of the year for your company. “
4. Try to take a test vacation
“Before you step back for a long time, try a short vacation. Some business owners initially leave the office one day a week or for a long weekend. When something goes wrong, consider it an opportunity to refine your systems. Trim, dispose of and carry on – train your team until you have all the major business tasks done for each season, ”suggests Dorison.
